The Berkeley of the East and Waste Wizard

MRN Member Daryl Braithwaite, Public Works Director for the City of Takoma Park, takes us on a tour of the city’s waste management and recycling system. Known as the “The Berkeley of the East,” Takoma Park brings one of our state’s more progressive approaches to materials management including polystyrene and plastic bag bans, compost collection and more. Listen in as Daryl gives us the inside scoop on the mechanics of their curbside collection program and the city’s Waste Wizard, an app that helps citizens check if something can be recycled curbside, should be thrown out, brought to Public Works, or be safely disposed during the city’s annual Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off Day.
