Arlington’s On-Street Food Scrap Collection Bins for Multifamily Residents

About this event

Join us at Noon on Thursday, November 21 as Erik Grabowsky, Chief, Solid Waste Bureau and Adam Riedel, Principal Environmental Management Specialist for the Environmental Services Department in Arlington County, VA, bring us up-to-date on a pilot program with Big Belly to collect food scraps and food-soiled paper from bins located outside select multifamily properties.

They’ll share program goals and lessons learned in this ambitious effort to expand the County’s ability to compost food scraps and prevent waste. As of September 24, more than 11,000 pounds of food waste has been collected in BigBelly Smartbins across parts of Arlington with a high concentration of multifamily buildings since the launch of the Solid Waste Bureau’s pilot program in early July.
