About this event
The food waste reduction action with the greatest potential for GHG reduction and net financial benefits is the source reduction strategy of consumer behavior change campaigns for households (which generate the largest share of food waste, over ~40%). In general, prevention strategies are much more powerful than recycling strategies because they avoid GHG emissions and costs all along the food supply chain.
The speakers will share their experiences with behavior change campaigns for residential households as well as commercial, industrial, and food recovery organizations at the local level: Wasted Food Stops With Us in Hamilton County OH, and Food Matters: Solutions for Food Waste Prevention in the City and County of Denver.
Moderator: Carol Adaire Jones, Environmental Law Institute, Food Waste Initiative Co-Director; Speakers:
Tony Staubach, Food Waste Diversion Sr. Specialist, Hamilton County ReSource, Ohio; and
Lesly Baesens, Food Resiliency & Waste Program Administrator, Denver Department of Public Health & Environment, City and County of Denver.
