TurboHaul Mattress Recycling Facility Tour
About this event

Mattresses remain a significant and growing problem for waste management and the environment. The average mattress weighs 65 pounds and occupies 23 cubic feet of space in a landfill and more than 50,000 mattresses are discarded in the United States every day. Mattresses have a compaction rate 400% less than traditional garbage, so they take up way more landfill space relative to their size. They also cause major issues with landfill equipment and are known to ‘float’ their way to the top of the landfill face.
TurboHaul recycles more than 90% of this hard-to-recycle product into a variety of reusable materials. Their process harvests the foam padding for carpet underlayment along with fabric and other fibers for furniture manufacturing, soundproofing applications, and for industrial oil filters. Metal springs and frames are recycled as scrap metal and used to make new appliances, building materials, and many other products. Wooden box spring frames are shredded for mulch, livestock bedding, or as an alternative fuel source for manufacturing.
TurboHaul has been at the forefront of mattress and box spring recycling and innovation for over twenty years. Their operations currently recycle over 15,000 mattresses and box springs per year with this number rapidly growing.
Join us at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, December 15, to see how they make it all happen.
*Space is limited to 35. Event is full.
