This Year’s Conference hits the mark! The 2024 MRN/SWANA Mid-Atlantic Conference exceeded all expectations and set a new record --- 212 registrants! Indeed, it was a full day of learning, conversing and exploring.
The program was a packed lineup complete with 3 general and 8 breakout sessions. Throughout the day, there was also plenty of opportunity to visit and chat with our 25 sponsors and vendors (see who was there), catch up with colleagues, and make few new friends along the way. The day ended with a happy hour event which included steamed crabs, BBQ, veggies and an open bar. Read more.

Kitty McIlroy is re-elected as MRN President: During the MRN Annual Meeting on June 10, MRN members re-elected
Kitty McIlroy, Northeast Maryland Waste Disposal Authority, as president for a second term. Also returning for a second term are
Michele Blair, City of Laurel Office of the City Administrator, as vice president and
Anthony Drury, Washington County Department of Public Works, as secretary/treasurer.
In addition to the Officers, members also elected nine individuals for a two-year term and one for a one-year term as directors. Seven members will be completing their second year of a 2-year term.

Sophia Hosain, Zero Waste Manager for Baltimore City DPW, was featured in
Waste360 for her work in advancing Baltimore’s zero waste initiatives using a community-focused lens. Hosain was also honored earlier this year as a
Waste360 40 Under 40 winner. Congratulations to Sophia for having her efforts recognized!
